Week 14-15 (4/7 – 4/20)
Guess what! I went to Japan! For like two days. My parents were coming to visit me in Hong Kong but decided to also spend some time in Japan, so I decided to also go to Japan and hang out before they went to Hong Kong. Lowkey, it was a little stressful since I didn’t do any of the Japan immigration procedure beforehand, so I had to do it at the airport and there was no public transportation (since I landed at 1 am) so I had to take a $70 USD taxi, but my hotel was pretty cool since I booked a capsule hotel and finally got to see one in person and live it in for a few days. I honestly thought that the capsule felt pretty big, but I would advise against booking a capsule hotel if you are severely claustrophobic.
Besides hanging out with my family in Japan, I also had the opportunity to meet up with some of my friends. On the first night, I met up with my friend Kisa, who was an exchange student at Mānoa, and on the second night, I met up with my friends Ocean and Aiden, who are both in Shidler as well. I had great times with both of them, and it was really cool to see them in another country.
When my parents finally came to Hong Kong, I got to stay with them at the Cordis, a really nice hotel right in the heart of Mongkok. With my parents, we explored Mongkok, went to Shenzhen (they didn’t really like it), went to different markets, and got to go on a really cool private food tour (for my Stepdad’s birthday) hosted by Ahsley (@hkfoodcrawlers). On this food tour, I tried a turtle jelly/tea thing, which felt very healthy, and was introduced to some other really good local foods I had never tried before.
